I want to thank Lee and her team for the informative presentation tonight. I learn more every time I hear Lee speak. I know the whole room appreciated your candor and will be out there trying to implement what they learned.
Even the old Fa#ts who used to use lanterns.
I hate to admit it but I remember shrimping off the bridges in Miami using a lantern and 18' telescoping net.Talk about burning calories
I can't wait to put my greenies and what you have taught me to work this year.

Here are a few pics from the seminar BBQ, if anyone has any others, load em' here. My team suprised me with yummy desserts and presents. After being on a weight loss mission what a wonderful treat to devour a cupcake. Thank-you Rogue and Cassandra for the memory of a lifetime and all those special ones in my life that signed the card.

Memory appears to be all over my face....feel free to food smash me again next year!

The information and presentation today was great... I haven't ventured out yet, but the things you pointed out were helpful to plan my first trip.... I did purchase one of the LED lights and look forward to using it as you suggested... Any tips on securing anchor to the bottom of it would be helpful....

This post is so we can have everything ready and is in no way to hold anyone accountable. If you think there's a chance you might come, then post it here. We try to be "Boy Scout" prepared as much as possible so that things will flow smoothly.

We shot the TV Show over 4 hours - Overcast Day

Craig AKA Maverick [Top Gun] was the chase boat and Alan and I were "Team Hammer". These shows are a slew of footage and you never know what will hit the cutting floor. There is not question the hosts enjoyed themselves, we spent a lot of time shooting scenes, re-shooting, re-organizing...and Alan still booted 4 gallons in the cooler.

Having done shoots before, this shoot has some blooper footage which I hope they do not cut out of the show....I had a malfunction on my Shumaker net due to my lack of understanding and 1 day ownership...I never removed the zip tie which allowed the not to close on the pull back...so there was some bad footage banana's. Then the cast net casted off my arm [floating cord thank goodness].....and boy was that a "Oh *&%&*& moment.....ROFL....good news is the cable tie is off, and I need a day of practicing with the net. I cannot wait to master it....

Glen the host and Wes the cameraman shot all kinds of footage, the boys can...

7/23/11 - Cast Net PICS Seminar BBQ & Shumaker Net Winner! ArdenLee

Here are the few pics I took at the end of the event. I kinda fell out while waiting in the basin to pull the boat out. Got dizzy cooking in the heat waiting for the trailer to hit the ramp. Once I found the BBQ and shade I bounced back in 2 seconds once I cooled down...the camera was not a priority. Fish On dug out the camera for me to take a few pics especially the Shumaker Net winner...and the camera fell on her foot during the transfer from her hands to mine. The neck strap got hung up on the picnic table boards and pulled out of my hand and the lens sliced her toe. She see's a Doc Friday and I am glad it will be looked at.I did not shoot any pics on the water, it was to crazy for me to do it....

Here is member ArdenLee throwing his new 10 foot Shumaker Net dyed a deep fuscia which is the HOTTEST color this year amongst the commercial guys and men period.....the net is gorgeous in person with that beautiful sewn in webbing.

Well we had a great turn out for the seminar and it was so good seeing everybody and meeting new folks again. Most of our members got their 5 gallons today. It was HOT out there and CROWDED. All the food was yummie, I want to personally thank everyone who brought something. Great job cooking the shrimp Jack, thanks again. So here is a pic of our wonderful leader in action. Enjoy!!!!

Please bring your pop up canopies, folding tables and chairs with you for tomorrow. There's not much there in the way of seats, tables or roof shelter.
Bring your food to share and a few drinks in case you don't like what's provided.

7:00am        Meet at Halifax Harbor Marina for instruction
(Specialist will teach methods for throwing cast nets, areas to look for shrimp, what to look for on fish finder)
7:30 am        Every one launch boats
11:30am       Everyone recover boats
12:00pm       Time to eat
1:00pm         Captains comments and raffle...

2011 Summer Cast Net Seminar

It's time to start planning our annual cast net seminar. I'm looking at the month of July which is just around the corner. We will hold this on a Saturday so the working people can have a chance to participate. The dates I'm looking at are: 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. The 2nd is out because of the 4th of july holiday weekend madness. My vote is for the 23rd. I think that later in the month will be better than earlier since the shrimp haven't started to really start running yet. I'd like to give them some more time.

Last year we launched at Veteran's Memorial Park near Big Tree in South Daytona, but then we had to go to another park in South Daytona to cook. This year I think we're going to look at Bethune Point Park in Daytona. I believe we can stay there at the park for everything we want to do.

Our schedule last year went something like this:

What a great day to spend with good friends whom I consider extended family! I am glad that everyone liked the bucket awards. They were pretty Sweeet! Thanks A & G . I was suprised to see all the window decals sold. If you weren't lucky enough to snag one at the event and would like one PM me for details. Once again the event was awesome, the food was superb, and the knowledge presented from our speakers was very rewarding. Thanks goes to Lee, the commanders, Lt's, the sponsers, and all of our members...there is not another site I would be more proud to be a member of!
