Are generally attached to a 6' rope  which is tied to the trap, and left lying on the abuttment which you are shrimping against  generally a 4"x8" piece of wood painted white and lettered with your name and address.is sufficient.  I actually used old ceiling fan blades for my name tags and they were legal.  Mike is right no bait they just blindly wander in and then go home for dinner!  There is a design to the trap which makes it accessible to shrimp from either direction.  I f you need a diagram holler.

(3) SHRIMP TRAPS.--

(a) It is unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to take or attempt to take shrimp by the use of any trap which:

1. Exceeds the following dimensions: 36 inches long (from rear of the heart to the leading edge of the trap), by 24 inches wide (between the leading edges of the trap, or heart opening), by 12 inches high; or

2. Has external or unattached wings, weirs, or other devices intended to funnel shrimp to the trap heart.

(b) This subsection shall not be construed to restrict the allowable shape or configuration of any shrimp trap so long as the trap, together with all of its parts, conforms to the specifications of paragraph (a).

The traps I used were constructed of hardware cloth, the coated wire mesh is sold at the hardware store, and assembled with hog rings or wire ties.  the 36" length is perfect however mine were only 18 " wide. x 12 " tall with a solid panel running  upright in the center for 30"  this creates a N and S landing strip for the shrimp.  Now the end that is the reservoir for the shrimp is boxed in to a length of 12" and then angled in towards the center panel  leaving approx 1 1/2 -2" gap for the shrimp to go through.  Once in you can consider them trapped.   A hatch is cut approx 6"X6" and affixed with a cover of same material which is then secured with a bungee or elastic of your choosing and hook to keep it shut.   I had two deployment lines  of lightweight nylon rope approx 12 ' ea  one attached on the top two reservoir corners and the other on the top two landing ramp corners then the two loops drawn together with my cord and name tag tied to the middle.  Having the ends like this allows for easy deployment using the ropes to lower them with the reservoir end abutted to the seawall and the ramp towards the body of water.  Then your tag can lie on the wall for easy retrieval of the handle ropes.  Generally speaking you ck the traps about every hour, so taking along a rod and reel gives you other ops as well. I would take a couple lights and deploy off the wall out three or four feet and dip some on top too.  While in transit I stowed the name tag and ropes inside the reservoir for ease of handling.   Good Luck! this is the simplest trap design to make and works very effectively and is totally legal.  You are allowed four traps per license and kids under 16 require no license.  As of July 1, there is no fee for a resident  fishing from land license, but you are required to get one and have it in your possesion if you don;t have a saltwater fishing license.  Lil Bananna River bridge is a prime spot for the Indian River Red Jumbos go early to gain enough ground to deploy your traps generally speaking about every twelve to fifteen ft.  West side is the preferred spot just follow the dirt trail down to the seawall under the bridge, the outside corners are best and the direction of flow would determine prime corner as the shrimp generally go with the flow  take a chair and cooler and enjoy.  I know folks who take the grill and make a day of it.  Plenty of room there for parking etc.
