Capt's Pet Posts: 383 01/30/12 03:39 PM - 1 Limits 2012 - 2 Limits 2011	Tags : None Set out this morning to check the traps. This twice a week run is starting to get to me. We had set out our 5 traps but could only find 4 of them. The GPS marking didn't even help. Trap #3 was missing in action. of the other 4 traps, only 2 had any keeper claws in them. I did get a small blue, but one small blue does not a meal make, so he went back. Count for the day: 1 lost trap.. 1 small bluecrab 4 keeper claws. The wind was blowing a bit strong, so we didn't try for any sheepies either. Even a bad day of fishing is still GOOD

Captain's Mate Posts: 870 01/31/12 09:35 PM	Thanks for the report but wish it went better for you! Loosing a trap sucks! Go back and look around...maybe the bouy line was hung up on the bottom? How much weight do you have in your traps?

They don't move to much. Even when someone hooks them with a fishing line. I have found more than one lure hung up on the trap or rope. I wonder if they think that the marker means where to cast to? I will be checking over the area for the next few trips. one of my "missing" traps did show up after about to weeks once before. You never can tell.

Captain's Mate Posts: 870 02/02/12 06:41 PM	Five pounds should keep it in place. I wouldn't figure it would have drifted off. Are you using floating or sinking line? If it's sinking line then you have a chance of it getting wrapped around something and keeping the bouy under. If sinking line try using a small toggle bouy, mid line, that will keep the excess line off the bottom and keep it from hanging up.

Looks like with so many crabbers this year, the herd' is thinning. Hate it that you lost a trap but. I have seen lots of potpoise in the river this year. Bet one pulled your trap into a hole. << There Is a Reason >>

I know what you mean about lots of traps out there. I try to stay off by myself and give the other guy some space. at times it was hard to do. I keep looking for new water that might not be over fished.
