Posts: 1138 04/13/10 06:46 PM Captain USCG Licensed NEW SMYRNA - 11 Limits 2011	take a mountain dew bottle and cut the top and bottom off,then split down the side and secure with elect tape and one white zip tie almost at the end of the light.it really does make a diff .if you dont like the way it performs ,it can easily be removed .test it side by side with reg light to see the differance. let me know what you think,really cheap and easy. good luck. rogue17, mike

Bought one and was able to cover both of my lites with 1 bottle using almost the same technique as you suggested. It worked great Thanks again, Craig

Posts: 7783 04/14/10 06:26 AM Captain USCG Licensed NEW SMYRNA DELTONA	You know Wal-mart gets the strangest people coming thru... I am sure they have talked about the "lid" lady which is me.... I go to the cleaning aisle and pop the plastic tops of spray cans looking for a certain lid to pop heads off the shrimp. The lid is my knife, and it keeps my hands from not cramping. So I stand therein the aisle for 20 minutes popping can lids and examining lid, romancing the lid like I found a $20 bill, make facial expressions and either put the can back or reach for another. Imagine staring at me, and hearing one of those hair commercials g-spot bellows, "YES"....and me gently putting my prized possession in the wagon.. Then another shopper will see my product brand and tell me a competing store has it on sale....and then I will thank them and tell them, "I need the can now I am heading to the Coast to go shrimping". The look on their face trying to imagine why I use air freshner to go shrimping. There is a table in the barn with a hole in the center and a five gallon bucket sitting under it. In the bucket you will find a couple of special cans. That is shrimp processing central. I think the cans are spam (not the computer kind) or some other mystery meat. Best regards, Frankk

Your sausage can does not rust? Very cool...somebody told me there is a perfect cat food can to use as well, but they never gave me the name! Growl. The green plastic might work great for Brinkman lights (I don't know), but I have built several jar lights using 12 volt compact fluorescent bulbs with green plastic from soft drink bottles. With the fluorescents, there is little color difference when in the water. I have gone back to making 12 volt fluorescent greenies for my own use. I might mention that I have used green 'colored" CFLs, but the green coating takes away from the brightness of the bulbs.

Posts: 533 04/15/10 05:02 PM	Hi Sleepless, Frankk AKA Sebastian here. I have about 20 of the 20 watt green fluorescent tubes in the loft. They look the same as the white ones until energized. There are also some green spiral 23 watt bulbs out there somewhere as I have made lights out of them in the past. They were not painted and looked the same as the white ones until lit. I can likely find the source for them in my tax files from 2007 if you need that information. In/re green film; many lighting supply outlets including Home Depot sell green tube protectors for T12 Fluorescent tubes. They should fit securely over the test tube body of a Starfire Light. One alternative to Star Fires is a small Pelligrini water bottle with a 50 watt halogen inside. I used to make these by gluing a rubber stopper with an extension cord sized hole through it with a good covering of "Shoe Glue" to hold it together. They beat Star Fires for light and were cheaper to boot. Just secure the bulb so it won't rattle and hit the sides of the bottle (use only glass bottle) and don't let it get hot before putting it into the water. Best regards, Frankk

Those folks that talk about the "lid" lady, are the same ones that'll say but W.M. Super Ctr. has shrimp for 4.95 a pound. YEAH!!!! but what fun is that, they wouldn't understand that chasin them bugs makes them taste even better

If you or anyone else is interested, I have three jar lights that I plan to sell These are all 12 volt compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) sealed in jars using 3M 5200 sealant, the best quality water-tight cable clamps, lined with green film, etc. They are complete with battery clamps and ready to use. $25 each or all three for $65. I don't think you can make them yourself for less than this.

The Saran Wrap (I bought the green colored at Walmart) sticks to itself so no ties or knots are needed. The downsides are that the Starfires still consume a whopping 50 watts and the green emitted was much less than a true greenie. Back then, I also experimented with Mountain Dew bottles, Rit dye and a few other types of film. None would even come close to comparing with NiteOwl's LED lights or the fluorescents that Fish On are selling.
